Energy Systems for a Sustainable Society

30 November, 1-3 pm on Zoom

Global energy use has grown dramatically since the rise of industrialization, tempting people to move
to more energy intensive lifestyles in larger communities. Energy use has progressed from providing only basic individual necessities to satisfying our needs for such diverse things as housing, farming, transportation, manufacturing, city-building, entertainment, information processing and communication. Present lifestyles in western societies are enabled by readily available, inexpensive and convenient high-density fossil fuels. This current situation is resulting in a pressing need of large- scale integrations of environmentally friendly energy solutions.

However, sustainable societies are not only about finding alternatives to fossil fuels, but also about how we can bring together diverse communities. At the same time future energy systems need to care for social cohesiveness and take factors such as socio-economic situations, digital literacy, behavioral aspects and demographics into account.

Uppsala University Innovation Partnership Office (UU Samverkan) invites you to an inspirational multidisciplinary webinar bringing together academics and societal stakeholders. The aim of the two-hour webinar is to inspire and identify different perspectives of sustainable energy
systems.

This seminar is the first step in bringing forth new ideas which may lead to more concrete co-creation opportunities.

The webinar has two focus-areas:

  1. The integration of renewable energy resources in the energy system
  2. The transition towards a socially sustainable energy system
